Green Eyes Again
I got frustrated with myself again on this one. I went back and read it thinking about my surgery and it just felt wrong. The feelings and ideas were there but the language sucked. Here’s a leaner and more coherent version. Hope you enjoy
Green Eyes
Night fell on my eyes.
I had gone blind.
Black spots appeared.
I fell into the dark.
There was a single beam.
When the morning returned.
My green had run on the breeze.
That hurt the worst.
It had made me…
me
Now they’re olives.
I see a mudded green.
A woman's lapis eyes found me.
Could I be seen?
Her voice beckoned to me.
"Give me your eyes."
"They should be only mine."
I couldn't.
My eyes had decayed.
If only she could see.
She wanted my past.
I couldn't give it.
I wish I hadn’t but...
I lied.
Am I me?
If I could have seen
just a moment sooner.
If my world had been bright
for a second longer.
Could she be mine?
Would I still be?
Fuck these damn eyes.
It wasn’t my green?
Could it have been me?
Or maybe just what I could see?
These damn eyes.
At least I can see.
Now they're just for…
me.
