Ugh I Lost My Content
AWS -> GCP for my infra and me forgetting to store my work before deleting my AWS account….
I recently moved all of my backend from AWS -> GCP. I prefer the interfaces, and my backend Terraform is pretty much identical. The pricing on GCP was also better, and I was wanting to start adding more artwork and features (like a custom mailing list, more advanced JS, etc…), so it felt like the right move. Lo and behold, I fucked it up….
I had probably 4–5 years’ worth of work through varying stages of life and skill that I accidentally sent up in smoke. Lucky me.
I should have saved them elsewhere or not totally cleared my AWS account before going live on GCP and under a new domain.
If you think this is sparse, it’s because it is. I’m trying to backfill everything, but it’s a process of going through old notebooks in my apartment, scouring old flash drives, and trying to boot dead laptops. Through multiple cross-country moves, the war in my home country, going back to the reservation for some time, and a divorce, I’ve lost a lot of it permanently, but hark, it gives me a chance to re-write it all—which is honestly fun—and I can show how my writing style has improved over the years.
Cheers to all who are reading this, and onward and upward.
